Hiding Rolexes and Holding Jimmy Choos Hostage

Nov 15, 2022

Did your spouse hold any of your property hostage when you split? Did you hide some of your spouse's belongings to get a little revenge?

It happens to people who are rich, poor, and everything in between.

Famous Italian soccer player Francesco Totti and his wife Ilary Blasi are divorcing after 17 years. There are rumors that were having affairs. (And apparently the addition of a hairless cat to the family during Covid lockdowns added to the drama.) As they decided to separate in July of this year....

Blasi took his Rolex watches, so he confiscated her designer handbags and shoes, including Gucci, Dior, Chanel, and Hermes. The watches are said to be worth about 1 million euros. No word on how much the shoes and purses are worth, however.

All Totti wanted was to exchange the watches and shoes/handbags, which apparently happened recently. Apparently, both sides ware in for a really nasty fight in the divorce case.

What can we learn from rich people fighting over their prized possessions?

Just don't do it. I know it's tempting to want to hurt your ex. Or maybe even more compelling is trying to get some leverage over them... either to get back something that belongs to you or to get them to agree to a settlement. But none of this makes you look good in court, and the last thing you need is the judge thinking you're dishonest.

Do your best to keep things above board so you have your integrity intact as you exit your marriage.
