Hello, DIY Divorce!

podcast Oct 26, 2023

Everyone knows that the divorce process is so expensive. Even when you try to find an “affordable” attorney and do a lot of the legwork yourself, it can still cost thousands of dollars. And if you’re “average,” it’s going to cost you $15k to $20k to get divorced. Ouch.

There are cheaper ways to get divorced than to go through the traditional process of each hiring an attorney, duking it out in court, and letting a judge decide who gets what.

Hello Divorce is empowering consumers to do just that… find alternatives within the divorce process that not only save you money, but help you get divorced in a friendlier way. On this week’s FInd Me The Money podcast, I talked with Erin Levine, the founder of Hello Divorce.

She practiced as a divorce lawyer for many years, so she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to the divorce process. Erin is on a mission to help separating couples feel empowered to create a better life ahead. She founded Hello Divorce (which is now venture capital-backed!) as an online platform with a ton of digital tools, combined with expert help.

In this episode, Erin and I talk about the advantages of managing your divorce process yourself: from saving a lots of money to having more control over how your divorce happens. But we also talk about some of the disadvantages of trying to do your divorce on your own, because there can be hurdles too.
